GIVE: “Zero Waste Events, Festivals, and Venues”

California is home to the largest music festival in the United States, and some of the largest convention centers in the West Coast. From world renowned Gay Pride celebrations to incoming World Cup and Olympic events, California has it all. Our events can make a lasting impact on resource recovery for the better or the worst. This TC is for anyone interested at the intersection of zero waste, sustainability initiatives, venues and events. We will highlight events and festivals paving the way for the industry, and there will be opportunities to troubleshoot, and share any insights. California knows how to party!

GRC: “Crowd-Sourcing the California Zero Waste Plan”

California has some of the most innovative programs and aggressive regulations for keeping discarded materials from destructive disposal and into the circular economy. But there are gaps in the services and programs that are needed to truly reach sustainable systems. Come and hear the latest development on the California Zero Waste Plan (currently being developed by CalRecycle). Voice your input on the policies, programs and infrastructure needed to reach Zero Waste (or close to it).

EFR: “Food Recovery Workshop”

Tuesday 12:30-2:30 (Main Meet Up from 12:30-1:30, Optional breakout sessions from 1:30-2:10)

Join us for a Meet Up on Food Recovery- all those working in the food recovery space in any capacity are welcome to attend. This workshop will be held during the lunch hour, so grab a plate of food and join us. Conversation will focus on coordination of various efforts and networks across the state, as well as:

  • Food Recovery Speed Dating- meet others involved in this important work

  • Collecting SB 1383 suggested policy/regulatory changes

  • Other options for collaboration – share innovative opportunities for collaboration that help to advance food recovery and create bigger impacts

K-12: “Navigating the SB 1383 Challenges for K-12 – Exploring Solutions, Together”

California school waste reduction programs are in flux.  Many are still recovering from closing down during the pandemic and most are trying to figure out how to implement SB 1383.  Join us at the K-12 TC lunch to share successes you have had, challenges you are facing and to learn how your colleagues are navigating through this difficult transition.

ZWCC: “Zero Waste Practices In Campus Environments”

Grab your lunch and meet people from college, university, and corporate campuses to hear and discuss projects, strategies, and challenges for achieving Zero Waste in a multi-building campus setting. We manage zero waste programs inside and outside buildings, bringing stakeholders together to encourage sustainable behavior and provide the right tools to achieve zero waste goals and regulatory compliance. ZWCC seeks to connect those who manage building or campus zero waste programs, ranging from those who are just starting on their journey towards Zero Waste to those with well-developed Zero Waste goals/plans. Cities, counties, and other government agencies as well as those who are located on a campus or manage building waste programs are welcome. This is an excellent opportunity to learn more about our unique network and to share your ideas (and maybe your frustrations!).

Additionally, plan now to join us the last Wednesday of the month at 11 am PST/2 pm EST for Meet Up, Waste Down! We have an initial welcome and introductions followed by breakout sessions to talk about various topics from Zero Waste planning to implementation, outreach and education, and everything in between.

This is a unique opportunity for you, as an industry professional, to discuss innovative solutions and share best practices in waste management and sustainability.
