| Zero Waste Trip Report, by Richard Anthony |
|
This year instead of looking for zero waste, we looked for opportunities to promote a zero waste systems approach. The use of “residuals” or “other” categories in analyzing discards create the justification for an integrated waste management approach which includes incinerators and landfills. NRC Comes to San Francisco
|
The California Resource Recovery Association’s 2004 Annual Conference and the National Recycling Coalition Congress and Expo have joined forces this year to produce an event you can’t afford to miss. The joint session runs August 29 through September 1 at San Francisco’s Moscone Convention Center . The NRC Congress last met in California in 1990, so it may be a while before it returns. This may be your best chance to meet recyclers from around the U.S. , learn about their challenges and programs, and keep up with California at the same time. Cast your vote or send proxy to ensure CA has a voice on board
As an affiliate of NRC, CRRA members are also automatically members of NRC with full voting rights. Ballot were mailed in July, and you should have received yours by now. CRRA members are strongly encouraged to vote in the NRC election. NRC elections are an important opportunity for California recycler’s to assert their voice in charting the direction of NRC. If members do not plan to cast their own ballot, they are encouraged to pass it onto another member or to the CRRA Board as a proxy ballot. Any questions on how to do this or about CRRA’s role with the election can be directed to CRRA Vice-Pesident, Alec Cooley at 707-826-5920 or at anc1@humboldt.edu.
In addition to the individual ballots, CRRA as an organization has a block of votes equal to half the number of its total membership. These ballots will be voted on by the CRRA Board of Directors. Member input is welcomed and encouraged as the Board considers how to distribute these votes. For more information, click here. |
